बलराम :
बलराम हलवाई इस कहानी के कथाकार होने के साथ ही नायक भी हैं। वह वाइट टाइगर का प्रतीक है। वह गाँव के किसान से सफल व्यवसायी बनने तक की अपनी कहानी सुनाता है। एक रिक्शा चालक का बेटा, जो भारत की सामाजिक सीढ़ी पर चढ़कर चालक से एक सफल व्यवसायी बन जाता है। वह चीनी प्रधान मंत्री जियाबाओ को एक पत्र लिखते हुये अपने जीवन की कहानी सुनाता है।
Mr. Ashok :
Ashok is the master of Balram. He is the son of Stork (Thakkur Ramdev) and the brother of Mongoose (Mukesh). He is kind to all people. Ashok also trusts Balram and treats him like a friend. But Balram tries to kill Ashok to make himself a successful entrepreneur.
अशोक :
अशोक बलराम का मास्टर होता है। वह सारस (ठाक्कुर रामदेव) का बेटा और नेवला (मुकेश) का भाई है। वह सभी लोगों के प्रति दयालु होता है। अशोक बलराम पर भरोसा करता है और उसके साथ दोस्त जैसा व्यवहार रखता है। लेकिन बलराम सफल उद्यमी बनने के लिए उसे मारने की कोशिश करता है।
Pinky Madam :
Pinky madam is the wife of Mr. Ashok. She is very beautiful. She is dissatisfied with life in India and wants to return to America and eventually leaves Ashok to return to New York.

The Stork :
He is the father of Ashok and Mukesh (Mongoose). His real name is Thakur Ramdev. He keeps his control over Laxmangarh. He steals coal from government mines and hence commit immoral acts like bribing officials, evading taxes etc.

वह अशोक और मुकेश (नेवला) के पिता हैं। इनका वास्तविक नाम ठाकुर रामदेव है। वह लक्ष्मणगढ़ पर अपना कण्ट्रोल रखते है। वे सरकारी खदानों से कोयले की चोरी करते है और इसलिए अधिकारियों को रिश्वत देना, करों की चोरी करना आदि अनैतिक कार्य करते है।
Kusum :
Kusum is Balram’s grandmother and she is also the head of the family, who intimidates and rules the entire family. She does not allow Balram to become a driver until he agrees to send the entire money home.
कुसुम :
कुसुम बलराम की दादी है और वह परिवार की प्रधान भी हैं, जो डरा-धमकाकर पूरे परिवार पर हुकुम चलाती है। वह बलराम को ड्राइवर बनने की इजाजत तब तक नहीं देती, जब तक वह पूरे पैसे घर भेजने के लिए राजी नहीं हो गया।

Friends ! As we told you that the story of this novel is based on the life of Balram Halwai. Balaram, born in a small village in Gaya. Here he lived with his grandmother, parents and brother. His father was a rickshaw puller. Balram was very intelligent as a student. For some reason he has to drop out of school. Earlier he works in a tea shop.
Then his eyes fall on the son of the landlord of Laxmangarh. And the idea of making his driver comes in his mind. He learns to drive and then finally he gets a job as the driver of the landlord’s son Ashok. One day while working, something happens to him, which brings a new twist in his life.

दोस्तों ! जैसाकि हमने आपको बताया कि इस उपन्यास की कहानी बलराम हलवाई के जीवन पर आधारित है। बलराम, जिसका जन्म गया के एक छोटे से गाँव में हुआ। यहाँ वह अपनी दादी, माता-पिता और भाई के साथ रहता था। उसके पिता एक रिक्शा चालक थे। बलराम पढ़ने में बहुत होशियार था। किन्हीं कारणों से उसे स्कूल छोड़ना पड़ता है। पहले वह एक चाय की दुकान पर काम करता है।
