- Indefinite Tense
- Continuous Tense
- Perfect Tense
- Perfect Continuous Tense.

What is Present Indefinite Tense | Simple Present Tense
Present Indefinite Tense is also known as “Simple Present Tense”. If you want to understand Present Tense well then you can read all the notes without skipping. Believe me you will get the concept of Present Tense cleared very well. Today we are going to learn you with very easy rules and examples.
Simple Present Tense refers to the current time of the verb. That is, when a work is being done in the current or running time, it is called Simple Present Tense.
But in this, the exact time of the action is not known when the action started in the present time and when it will end. This type of present Tense is indefinite. Hence it is called Present Indefinite Tense. That is, the present tense in which the time for the action to be fixed is not fixed.
How to Understand Simple Present Tense :
In this Tense, S or es are used with the Ist form of Verb with Singular Subject. but not with Plural Subject.
Friends! Singular Subject Means – He, She, It and Single Name puts s/es after Ist form of MainVerb. And where the Plural Subjects – I, We, You, They and Plural Names are used in the sentence, Don’t put s/es after that. Let us understand this with some examples :

| She goes to Temple. | They go to Temple. |
| He sings a song. | We sing a song. |
- After reading these examples carefully, We find that in the first example, Play with Singular Subject Sachin uses “S” with Verb’s Ist form. While both Sachin and dhoni are making sense of the plural. So there is no “S” with Play.
- In the second example, “es” is used with the Ist form of the Go verb because of singular subject– She, whereas They is Plural Subject, So, “es” is not used after the Go verb.
Thus it is clear from all the examples that “s/es” is used with Verb’s Ist form when subject is singular and only the Ist form of Verb is used when it is a plural subject.
Easy Tips for use of s/es :
Now one thing must be coming in your mind that when to use s or es with the Ist form of Verb when Singular Subject is used in sentence. So let’s also tell you so that you will never have any confusion in the use of s/es.
If you see the last letter O, SS, Ch, Sh, X, Z etc. of the Ist form of Verb, then you have to use es. like :

Types of Present Indefinite Tense :

- Affirmative or Simple Sentence
- Negative sentence
- Interrogative Sentence
- Interrogative Sentence
Affirmative Sentences | Simple Sentence :
Follow the below structure to create a Simple or Affirmative sentence of the present Indefinite Tense :
- Structure for Affirmative sentence of Simple Present Tense

| For Plural | Subject + Verb – Ist + Object + Others. |
It is to be noted here that the use of s / es with the Ist Form of Verb is mandatory for Singular Subject. For Example :

Negative Sentence :
Let me tell you that Helping Verb – “Does and Do” are used in Present Indefinite Tense. Does is used for Singular and Do for Plural Subject. And if it is negative, the use of Not will also be done.
- Singular Subjects : He, She, It, Single Name.
- Plural Subjects : I, We, You, They, Plural Names.
- Helping Verb : Do / Does
- Main Verb : Ist Form
Follow the below structure to create a Negative Sentence of the present Indefinite Tense :

Interrogative Sentence :
Friends! interrogative means interrogative sentences. Helping in such sentences comes before the Verb subject and there is no change in the remaining structure.
Follow the below structure to create a Interrogative Sentence of the present Indefinite Tense :

Friends! Interrogative Negative also means the use of Not in interrogative sentences. In such sentences, Helping comes before the Verb subject and Not is used after the Subject.

Golden Structure For Simple Present Tense :
Friends! If you want to have such an all in one structure that you can use for all these four sentences by remembering it, and there is no problem of remembering so many structures, then we are also telling you such a Golden structure which is like this :
- Golden Structure For Simple Present Tense :

*H.V. = Helping Verb (Does / Do)
*M.V. = Main Verb (Ist Form)
You only remember this Golden Structure. Just by taking care of some things, you can create the structure by yourself. Some things you have to keep in mind that :
- If Sentence is Affirmative then place s/es with Verb’s I form when subject is Singular but not in Plural.
- For all the sentences, the Helping Verb will always use Does with Singular and Do with Plural.
- In Negative Sentence Not will always be used after Helping Verb (Do/Does).
- If Sentence is Interrogative, Helping Verb will always be used before Subject.
- If the Sentence is Interrogative Negative, Helping Verb will always be used before Subject and Not will come immediately after the subject.
In this way, you can make all the four types of Sentences of present Indefinite Tense easily. Now, tell you about some important rules, which is very important to keep in mind. Keeping these in mind, you will never have any problem in the use of Present Indefinite Tense.
Some Important Rules of Present Indefinite Tense :
1. Present Indefinite Tense is used to tell about any Activity or Event or Nature at the present time like :
- She sings a song.
- He lives in Jaipur.
2. Present Indefinite is also used to tell about Habitual Action and Repeated Action like :
- He takes Tea everyday.
- You always come late.
- Radha goes for a morning walk everyday.
3. Present Indefinite is also used to tell about a Universal Truth or General Principle like :
- The Earth moves round the Sun.
- Honesty is the Best Policy.
4. Present Indefinite is also used to tell about a Certain event or Plan in the Future like :
- The Train arrives at 7.00 AM.
- He goes to Jaipur on Monday.
5. When two future events are mentioned together, the present Indefinite Tense is used in the sentence after the Conjunction of Time like :
- I will teach him English when He will come here. (Incorrect)
- I will teach him English when He comes here. (Correct)
