Doctor Faustus Character Analysis in Hindi & English : Friends ! Doctor Faustus is a play written by Christopher Marlowe. This is an Elizabethan tragedy. The full name of this play is: The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus. This is probably written in 1592 or 1593.

Faustus :
The main protagonist of this play, who lives in Wittenberg, Germany. He is a respected German scholar, who has mastered the fields of logic, medicine, law, and religion. Now he wants to learn the practice of black magic.

Wagner :
He is Faustus’s servant. At Faustus’s insistence, He goes to summon two magicians. (यह फॉस्टस का नौकर है, जो फॉस्टस के कहने पर दो जादूगरों को बुलाने जाता है)
Valdes and Cornelius :
The two are magician-friends of Faustus, who teach him black magic. (ये दोनों फॉस्टस के जादूगर-दोस्त है, जो उसे काला जादू सिखाते हैं)
Good Angel :

This story begins in Wittenberg, Germany. Where a character named Dr Faustus is talking to himself. He is a very educated person. He has mastered most of the areas of education like logic, medicine, law, and religion etc. Now he is thinking of learning something different. He wants to learn Black Magic, so that he can get his dark powers. And no one could beat him.
ये कहानी विटेनबर्ग, जर्मनी से शुरू होती है। जहाँ Dr Faustus नाम का एक Character अपने आप से बात कर रहा है। वह बहुत ही पढ़ा लिखा इंसान है। इसने शिक्षा के logic, medicine, law, and religion आदि जैसे अधिकतर क्षेत्रों में महारत हासिल कर रखी है। अब वो कुछ अलग सीखने की सोच रहा है। वो Black Magic सीखना चाहता है, ताकि उसके dark powers मिल जाये। और उसे कोई भी नहीं हरा सके।
To learn black magic, he called his servant Wagner and asked to summon two magicians named Valdes and Cornelius. The servant goes to call them. Dr Faustus wants to learn black magic as soon as possible with the help of these two magicians. He is still waiting for these two when two Angels appear in front of him. One of them is a Good Angel and one is a Evil Angel.
काला जादू सीखने के लिए इसने अपने नौकर Wagner को अपने पास बुलाया और Valdes and Cornelius नामक दो जादूगरों को बुलाने के लिए कहा। नौकर उन्हें बुलाने के लिए चला जाता है। Dr Faustus इन दोनों जादूगरों की मदद से जल्दी से जल्दी काला जादू सिख लेना चाहता है। वो इन दोनों का इंतज़ार कर ही रहा होता है कि इतने में उसके सामने दो Angels प्रकट हो जाती है। इनमें एक तो Good angel होती है और एक Evil Angel.

Good Angel cautions Dr Faustus and tells him to stay away from black magic. But the Bad Angel instigates him. She tells him that you can achieve anything by learning black magic. Along with knowledge, you will also get power. Saying this both the angels disappear and Dr Faustus starts talking to himself again.
Good Angel Dr Faustus को सावधान करती है और उसे काले जादू से दूर रहने को कहती है। लेकिन bad एंजेल उसे उकसाती है। उसे कहती है कि तुम काला जादू सीखकर कुछ भी हासिल कर सकते हो। Knowledge के साथ-साथ तुम्हें पावर भी मिलेगी। ऐसा कहकर दोनों Angels गायब हो जाती है और Dr Faustus फिर से अपने आप से बातें करने लग जाता है।
He is thinking that by learning black magic, I can do anything. I can do something good for Germany too. The devils will also tell me their strange philosophy. Just then, the two magicians Valdes and Cornelius arrive. Doctor Faustus welcomes and requests them to teach him black magic.

After eating, They now start teaching black magic to Doctor Faustus. Just then two friends of Doctor Faustus come outside. They know Doctor Faustus very well that if he is determined to do any work, then he takes his breath by doing it. So Wagner goes outside and tries to stop both of them from coming inside. And on being asked, jokingly says that the real knowledge is going on inside.
खाने के बाद अब वे अपना काला जादू Doctor Faustus को सिखाना शुरू करते है। तभी बाहर Doctor Faustus के दो दोस्त आते है। वो Doctor Faustus को अच्छे से जानते है कि अगर वह कोई काम करने की ठान लेता है तो वो उसे करके ही दम लेता है। ऐसे में Wagner बाहर चला जाता है और उन दोनों को अंदर आने से रोकने की कोशिश करता है। और पूछने पर मजाक बनाते हुये बोलता है कि अंदर असली वाली Knowledge चल रही है।

Both friends of Doctor Faustus are deeply sorry. They come to know that their friend is learning some black magic. They both think of telling the head of the university. Here Doctor Faustus is busy in learning black magic. Then suddenly he sees a thunderstorm in the sky. He tells her that how can Devils be called to him by doing black magic? Then started reciting mantras in Latin by making some signs in a circle. And started calling many devils names.
Doctor Faustus के दोनों दोस्तों को बहुत अफ़सोस होता है। उन्हें पता चल जाता है कि उनका दोस्त कोई काला जादू सीख रहा है। वे दोनों University के Head को बताने की सोचते है। इधर Doctor Faustus काला जादू सीखने में मशगूल है। तभी अचानक वह आकाश में thunderstorm को देखता है। वो उसे बोलता है कि काला जादू करके Devils को अपने पास कैसे बुलाया जा सकता है ? तब एक Circle में कुछ चिन्ह बनाकर लैटिन में मंत्र पढ़ना शुरू किया। और बहुत से डेविल्स के नाम पुकारने लगा।

One of these devils was a very circumcised devil, whose name was : Mephastophilis. This devil appears in front of Doctor Faustus in a filthy appearance. Doctor Faustus asks her to appear in a better face. Mephastophilis does exactly that. Dr Faustus is very happy that even such a dangerous Devil is obeying him. The Devil tells Faustus what do you want from me?
इन्हीं डेविल्स में से एक बहुत ही खतनाक डेविल था, जिसका नाम था : Mephastophilis. ये डेविल Doctor Faustus के सामने एक गन्दी सी शक्ल लेकर प्रकट हो जाता है। Doctor Faustus उसे एक अच्छी सी शक्ल लेकर सामने आने को कहता है। Mephastophilis ठीक वैसा ही करता है। Dr Faustus इस बात से बहुत खुश है कि इतने खतरनाक Devil भी उसकी आज्ञा मान रहे है। डेविल Faustus से कहता है कि तुम्हें मुझसे क्या चाहिए?

Then Faustus tells him to stay for a while. Let me think a little about what I want you to do. But the Devil forbids him to stop. Faustus says that don’t you obey my orders? Have you come from the words of Lucifer? Devil says that I neither accept your orders nor that of Lucifer. We the Devil can go wherever someone calls us except God and in return we take his soul. I have come to take your soul.
तब Faustus उसे थोड़ा रुकने के लिये कहता है। मुझे थोड़ा सोचने दो कि मुझे तुमसे क्या करवाना है। लेकिन डेविल उसे रुकने के लिए मना कर देता है। Faustus बोलता है कि क्या तुम मेरे Orders नहीं मानते ? क्या तुम Lucifer के कहने से आये हो ? Devil बोलता है कि मैं ना तुम्हारे Order मानता हूँ और ना ही लूसिफ़ेर के। हम डेविल कहीं भी जा सकते है, जहाँ भगवान् को छोड़कर कोई हमें बुलाता है और बदले में हम उसकी Soul ले जाते है। मैं तुम्हारी Soul लेने के लिये आया हूँ।

After a brief conversation, Faustus makes a deal with the Devil. He says that if your Lucifer gives me unlimited powers and makes you my servant, then I will give my soul to Lucifer after 24 years in return. Mephastophilis goes to talk to Lucifer about this deal.
थोड़ी बातचीत कर लेने के बाद Faustus उस डेविल से एक Deal करता है। वह कहता है कि अगर तुम्हारा Lucifer मुझे Unlimited Powers दे और तुम्हें मेरा नौकर बना दे तो मैं इसके बदले में 24 साल बाद Lucifer को अपनी Soul दे दूंगा। Mephastophilis इस Deal के बारे में लूसिफर से बात करने को चला जाता है……. to be Continued..?
