What is Future Perfect Continuous Tense


Future Perfect Continuous Tense : Friends! This tense has the quality of both perfect and continuous. Perfect means completion of the action and continuous means continuation of the action. That is, when an action is partially completed in the future and is going to continue, then such tense is called future perfect continuous tense.

In other words, when an action starts in the coming time and continues to be partially completed and gives the impression that it will continue in the future, then it is called Future Perfect Continuous Tense.

You must be getting some things clear from these examples, take a look at these points :

  • Friends! Here “Will have been / Shall have been” — helping verb is used in each sentence.
  • In each sentence, the “first form of the main verb + ing” is used immediately after the helping verb.
  • Also, “since / for + time” is used in the end of the sentence.

Important Rules of Future Perfect Continuous Tense :


To understand Future Perfect Continuous Tense, keep in mind some rules :

  • This Tense uses the Helping Verb — “Shall have been” with I, We and the Helping Verb — “Will have been” with all other Subjects.
  • The “first form of the main verb + ing” is always used in this tense.
  • Time is also mentioned in Future Perfect Continuous Tense. Hence, “Since / For” is essentially used with time. So note that “Since” is used for point of time (fixed time) and “For” is used for period of time (Indefinite time).

Affirmative Sentences | Simple Sentence :

To make a simple sentence of the future perfect continuous tense, you have to understand the following structure carefully :

For I, We :Subject + shall have been +1st Form + ing + Object +Since / for + Time.
For all other Subjects :Subject +will have been +1st Form + ing +Object +Since / for +Time.

For Example :

It will have been falling away for 2 months.You will have been writing this story for 4 weeks.

Negative Sentence :

To create Negative Sentence, use “not” immediately after “will / shall” and after it “have been” added. The remaining structure will remain the same :

For I, We :Subject + shall + not + have been +1st Form + ing + Object +Since / for + Time.
For all other Subjects :Subject +will + not + have been +1st Form + ing +Object +Since / for +Time.

For Example :

Interrogative Sentence :

Interrogative Sentence always begins with the Helping Verb. To make it, apply “Will / shall” before the Subject and after it “have been” is used.

For I, We :Shall +Subject + have been +1st Form + ing + Object +Since / for + Time ?
For all other Subjects :Will +Subject +have been +1st Form + ing +Object +Since / for +Time ?

For Example :

Interrogative Negative Sentence :

In the interrogative sentence, “not” is placed immediately after the subject and immediately before “have been”.
