What is Future Continuous Tense


Future Continuous Tense : When an action is going to continue in the coming time, that is, there is a feeling of continuous action in the future. So it is called Future Continuous Tense. To understand this well, let us take some examples :

SingularPlural
He will be singing a song.I shall be reading a book.
She will be writing a story. We shall be going to Market.
Jay will be publishing Research Notes.They will be playing Cricket.

— Two things are being elucidated by these examples :

  • Two types of helping verb “will be / shall be” are used in these sentences.
  • And with the first form of the main verb, “ing” is used after helping verb in all sentences.

From both these points it is known that “will be / shall be” is used as a helping verb and after this the “first form of the Main verb + ing” is also used in the Future Continuous Tense. But which structure or rule is followed for this? Let’s try to understand all this :


Important Rules of Future Continuous Tense :


If you want to understand Future Continuous Tense well then you have to understand some of its rules properly. So that you do not have any problem in creating sentence.

  • Friends! You should always keep in mind that “Shall Be” is used only with “I” and “We”, while “Will be” is used with all other subjects, whether singular or plural.
  • In this tense, the first form of the Main verb + ing is always used after the helping verb.

Structure Types of Future Continuous Tense :


Friends! The following four types of sentences are also formed in Future Continuous tense :

  • Affirmative or Simple Sentence
  • Negative sentence
  • Interrogative Sentence
  • Interrogative Negative Sentence

Affirmative Sentences | Simple Sentence :

Follow the structure given below to make a Simple Sentence of Future Continuous Tense :

For I, We :Subject + shall be +Ist Form+ ing +Object +Others.
For all other Subjects :Subject +will be +Ist Form+ ing +Object +Others.

For Example :

SingularPlural
He will be singing a song.I shall be reading a book.
She will be writing a story.We shall be going to Market.
It will be falling away.You will be speaking English.
Jay will be publishing Research Notes.They will be playing Cricket.
Ram and Krishna will be watching TV.

Negative Sentence :

Use “not + be” immediately after will or shall in a negative sentence, i.e. put a not in the middle of “will be or shall be” and follow the structure given below to make a Negative Sentence of Future Continuous Tense :

For I, We :Subject + shall + not + be +Ist Form+ ing +Object +Others.
For all other Subjects :Subject +will+ not + be +Ist Form+ ing +Object +Others.

For Example :

Interrogative Sentence :

To make an interrogative sentence, place the “will or shall” immediately before the subject and place the “be” after the subject and follow the structure given below to make a Interrogative Sentence of Future Continuous Tense :

For all other Subjects :Will +Subject +be +Ist Form+ ing +Object +Others ?
