Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus Summary in English :
The fame of Doctor Faustus became so much talked about that even the Emperor Charles 5th of Germany invited him to dinner. There were also many people in the court of Charles 5th who were envious of the fame of Doctor Faustus. They didn’t want Faustus to even step on the court.
Eventually Doctor Faustus appears in court and is asked to prove his magic skills. Faustus displays amazing magical skills. But one Knight did not believe in Faustus’s magic and he got up from the court and left.
Faustus asks to bring back the knight. When that knight is called back, there are horns on his head. Then at the behest of the knight, he also removes those horns. Having thus had tremendous entertainment in the court, King Charles gave some prizes to Faustus.
But some people in that court get so annoyed with Faustus that they plot to kill him. And Faustus even puts horns on their heads. Now Faustus returns to Wittenberg again.
Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus Summary in Hindi :
डॉक्टर फ़ॉस्टस की प्रसिद्धि के चर्चे इतने होने लगे कि उनको जर्मन के एम्परर चार्ल्स 5th ने भी अपने पास खाने पर बुलाया। चार्ल्स 5th की कोर्ट में कई ऐसे लोग भी थे, जो डॉक्टर फ़ॉस्टस की प्रसिद्धि से जल रहे थे। वे नहीं चाहते थे कि फ़ॉस्टस कोर्ट में कदम भी रखे।
अंतत: डॉक्टर फ़ॉस्टस कोर्ट में प्रस्तुत होता है और उससे अपनी Magic Skill को Prove करने को कहा जाता है। फ़ॉस्टस उनके कहने पर बहुत ही कमाल की जादुई स्किल दिखाता है। लेकिन एक knight को फ़ॉस्टस के जादू पर भरोसा नहीं हुआ और वह कोर्ट से उठकर चला गया।
फ़ॉस्टस उस नाइट को वापस बुलाने को कहता है। जब उस Knight को वापस बुलाया जाता है तो उसके सिर पर सींग लगे होते है। फिर नाइट के कहने पर उन सींगो को हटा भी देता है। इस तरह कोर्ट में जबरदस्त मनोरंजन करने के बाद, King Charles ने फ़ॉस्टस को कुछ पुरस्कार दिया।
लेकिन उस कोर्ट में कुछ लोग फ़ॉस्टस से इतने ज्यादा चिढ जाते है कि उसे मारने की साजिश रचते है। और फ़ॉस्टस उनके सिर पर भी सींग लगवा देता है। अब फ़ॉस्टस फिर से विटेनबर्ग लौट आता है।
Doctor Faustus Summary in English :
Here he meets a horse trader. He sells the horse to the horse trader and warns him not to take the horse into the water. But the merchant takes the horse to the middle of the pond and the horse drowns in it.
Now he runs and comes to Faustus and tells that his horse drowned in the water. Hearing this, Faustus laughs and says that I forbade the horse to be taken in the water, was it not ? Just then, Faustus’s servant Wagner comes and says that Faustus has been called by the duke.
He leaves when the Duke invites him. There the Duke and Duchess seem to be entertained. The Duchess says that I want to eat grapes. It was not yet grapes season, yet Faustus spoke to the Devil and made the grapes appear. The Duke was very surprised to see this. Impressed by his magical skills, the Duke rewarded him.
In this way life went on in fun and one day the time came when Faustus had to give his soul to Lucifer. Faustus was not bothered about this at all. He has given all his wealth to his servant Wagner.
Wagner has done great service to Faustus throughout his life. But he is worried about his master. Here Faustus doesn’t care. He thinks that whatever happens, will be seen.
Doctor Faustus Summary in Hindi :
यहाँ उसकी मुलाकात घोड़े के व्यापारी से होती है। वह घोड़े के व्यापारी को घोडा बेचकर चेतावनी देता है कि वह घोड़े को पानी में लेकर ना जाये। लेकिन व्यापारी घोड़े को तालाब के बीचोबीच ले जाता है और घोडा उसमें डूब जाता है।
अब वो दौड़ा-दौड़ा फ़ॉस्टस के पास आता है और बताता है कि उसका घोडा पानी में डूब गया। ये सुनकर फ़ॉस्टस हँसते हुये कहता है कि मैंने घोड़े को पानी में लेकर जाने से मना किया था ना। इतने में ही फ़ॉस्टस का नौकर Wagner आकर बोलता है कि फ़ॉस्टस को Duke ने बुलाया है।
Duke के Invite करने पर वह चला जाता है। वहां Duke और Duchess का मनोरंजन करने लगता है। डचेस बोलती है कि मुझे अंगूर खाने है। अभी अंगूरों की सीजन नहीं थी, फिर भी फ़ॉस्टस ने डेविल को बोलकर अंगूर हाज़िर कर दिये। यह देख Duke बहुत हैरान हो गया। उसकी जादुई स्किल से प्रभावित होकर Duke ने उसे इनाम दिया।
इसतरह से जिंदगी मज़े में बीतती गयी और एक दिन वो समय भी आ गया, जब फ़ॉस्टस को अपनी Soul Lucifer को देनी थी। फ़ॉस्टस को इस बात की कोई चिंता ही नहीं थी। उसने अपनी सारी सम्पति अपने नौकर Wagner के नाम कर दी है।
Wagner ने तमाम उम्र Faustus की खूब सेवा की है। लेकिन उसे अपने मालिक की बड़ी फिकर हो रही है। इधर फ़ॉस्टस को कोई फ़र्क़ ही नहीं पड़ रहा। वो सोचता है कि जो भी होगा, देखा जायेगा।
The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus Summary in English :
Faustus sets out to impress his scholar friends. Friends ask him to get Helen, a very beautiful woman. And he does the same. During this, an old man comes and says that Dr. Faustus still has a chance. You are about to die, ask God for forgiveness. Maybe you can get life.
Now even Faustus feels that he should apologize to God. Then Mephistophilis comes and stops him from apologizing. You can’t do that Dr. Faustus. You can’t cheat. Faustus says “no man, I’m not doing that”. I still remember the agreement. My death is near. You bring Helen to me. So that I may be lost in Helen in my last moments.
Dr. Faustus is also asked by his friends to apologize and also pray for him. Faustus feels very sorry for his sins. He thinks that now apologizing to God will be of no use. God will never forgive him.

फ़ॉस्टस अपने दोस्तों को इम्प्रेस करने में लग जाता है। दोस्त उसको बहुत ही सुन्दर स्त्री हेलेन को मंगवाने को बोलते है। और वो ऐसा ही करता है। इसी दौरान एक Old Man आकर बोलता है कि डॉ फ़ॉस्टस अब भी मौका है तुम्हारे पास। तुम मरने वाले हो। God से माफ़ी मांग लो। शायद तुम्हें जीवनदान मिल जाये।
अब फ़ॉस्टस को भी लगता है कि उसे God से माफ़ी मांग लेना चाहिए। तभी Mephistophilis आकर उसे माफ़ी मांगने से रोक देता है। तुम ऐसा नहीं कर सकते डॉ फ़ॉस्टस। तुम धोखा नहीं कर सकते। फ़ॉस्टस कहता है कि नहीं यार, मैं ऐसा नहीं कर रहा। मुझे एग्रीमेंट अब भी याद है। मेरी मौत करीब है। तुम मुझे हेलेन लाकर दे दो। ताकि मैं अपने अंतिम समय में हेलेन में खोया रहूं।
डॉ फ़ॉस्टस को उसके दोस्त भी माफ़ी मांगने को कहते है और उसके लिये दुआ भी करते है। फ़ॉस्टस को अपने पापों के लिए बहुत दुःख होता है। वो सोचता है कि अब गॉड से माफ़ी मांगने से कोई फायदा नहीं होगा। God उसे कभी माफ़ नहीं करेंगे।
Doctor Faustus Summary & Analysis in English :
Now there is only 1 hour left for Faustus’s agreement to be completed. In this 1 hour he cries a lot, regrets. Abuses himself and Lucifer. Doing this, half an hour passes.
In the last half hour he realizes that he must now apologize to God. He asks God to save his soul. He requests to become a servant of God for thousands of years. Cries and cries a lot.
And then his remaining time also ends. Then it is 12 o’clock in the night and Lucifer comes and takes his soul. Faustus has only one wish while leaving that his black magic book should be burnt so that no one else ever makes the mistake of learning black magic.
Doctor Faustus Summary & Analysis in Hindi :
अब फ़ॉस्टस का एग्रीमेंट पूरा होने में 1 घंटा ही शेष रह गया है। इस 1 घंटे में वो बहुत रोता है, पछताता है। खुद को और Lucifer को गाली देता है। ऐसा करते-करते आधा घंटा और बीत जाता है।
अंतिम आधे घंटे में उसे Realize होता है कि उसे अब God से माफ़ी माँगना चाहिए। वो God से अपनी Soul बचाने को कहता है। God का हज़ारो सालों तक नौकर बनकर रहने की विनती करता है। खूब रोता है, गिड़गिड़ाता है ।
और फिर उसका बचा हुआ समय भी समाप्त हो जाता है। तभी रात के 12 बज जाते है और Lucifer आकर उसकी Soul को ले जाता है।फ़ॉस्टस की जाते-जाते एक ही इच्छा होती है कि उसकी काला जादू की किताब को जला दिया जाये ताकि कोई दूसरा काला जादू सीखने की भूल कभी ना करे।
